New technology is being used to manage flows of walkers and cyclists using the Royal Greenwich and Woolwich foot tunnels. A vision based computer system identifies and counts the number of walkers, cyclists and people walking their bikes, and overhead signs indicate when cyclists must dismount and walk.
Walkers and cyclists can use the BetterPoints app to log their journeys through the tunnel, and earn points that can be redeemed for high street rewards or charity donations. You can earn bonus points every time you walk, or dismount your bike and walk through the tunnel.
A trial period is currently underway to show that if everyone slows down, we can all travel through the tunnel safely and efficiently.
Support the trial by following the instructions on the overhead signs and keep on earning points as you continue your journey throughout London.
