My Motivation

We like to bring you stories from BetterPoints users who are using the app to make positive changes to their lives and earning rewards.

Recently we asked one of our most frequent users, Tad, who is in the ‘Love your Park’ programme, to give us his story. Here is what he said about his motivating factors to get out and about in his local green spaces...

"A few years back I realised a smart phone could offer many of the same benefits of a dedicated fitness tracker without the expense and that there seemed to be many apps offering fitness reward programmes. I chose BetterPoints as it struck a good balance between activity versus tangible rewards. It also had the added bonus that charities of your choice could stand to benefit too.

I’ve been a committed user of BetterPoints for almost two years now.

Although I have always been pretty active, family commitments tended to limit this to cycle commuting. Unfortunately a recent office move put paid to that option. Thankfully the 'Love your Park' programme, in partnership with Ealing Borough Council, came at exactly the right time to motivate me down a different route. I started going for walks in the evening or at weekends.

So now I have an almost daily routine which is to take my toddler on a long pram ride spanning three parks in Ealing of an evening. Too much is still going on around him to have him fall asleep, but the dose of fresh air seems to help us both sleep better through the night. I’ll also incorporate the 'Walk and Pick' activity as part of this routine and it has made me more aware of the littering that regrettably still occurs in our parks. With a rubbish bin never far away I’ve certainly taken more ownership of the problem and help to clean it up.

The brand new 'Virtual Treasure Hunt' over the Summer holidays has added a new twist and my elder kids and I have already had fun hunting in one of the three parks in the programme that is nearest to us."
