Reading Rescue - River & Environmental Clean Up

RESCUE stands for Rivers and Environmental Spaces Clean Up Event.

RESCUE is a valued partnership event, bringing council, community and the business sector together to plan and deliver a popular event.

The local community clean up teams and the business teams efforts are crucial for the event. The event is also not possible without the involvement of the council waste services and overall facilitation of the event by the steering group.

Reading RESCUE has been sponsored by Thames Water for the last five years!

During four days in March and two days in October, over 25 clean up teams take on the task of clearing up a local woodland, waterway, or green space from litter and fly tipping.

The teams are made up of volunteers from local businesses, community & neighbourhood groups.

They are provided with litter pickers, gloves and bags and the rubbish is removed for them by the local authority.
In March 2012, we contributed 1250 working hours to clear up 30 sites across Reading. This work was carried out by 30 clean up teams.

We are looking for anybody interested in volunteering for our events - please contact us for more information.
