Starting Point Reading
Providing support for young people not in education, employment or training through mentoring and work experience.
Starting Point Reading is a new project, formed in June 2012 that seeks to help young people aged 16-25 to engage with education, employment and training opportunities.
An important aspect of our work is providing young people with suitable, quality mentors who will support and encourage young people to make the difficult transition into work.
We recognise that many entry level jobs assume that young people have the appropriate ‘soft skills’ required which is not necessarily the case. We therefore also aim to provide work experience placements that will help young people to adjust to the demands of work in terms of time keeping, speaking and listening skills.
These placements will be available in a variety of different sectors to allow young people to get a taste of what working in that industry will be like.
